浅聊版画的语言和边界

我国版画目前在发展中有两个非常重要的缺失:一是评价体系的缺失,即学术建设基础较弱;二是市场行为的缺失,即版画的社会影响力较弱。这两点都会影响中国版画将来的发展。同时版画观念、语言、风格三个方面的问题,也制约着版画的发展。历史观念相对保守,让画面缺少时代的关注点;表现语言过于雷同,让叙述缺少语言个性;风格气质庸常贫弱,让精神张力难以舒展,这些问题明眼内行都不难看出,在表象之后,版画除了因版成画这个客观因素之外,更重要的是审美理念的归向以及在文化意识、思想维度和精神品质上的追求。

最近,我看到一些令人欣喜的版画作品。比如罗贵荣的套色凸版版画《时间·时间》 ,以一种新颖的立场、幽默的叙述、饱满的色彩和独特的角度,表现了新时代的路桥建设;作品跳出了作者自己熟悉的表现惯性、温暖的语言巢穴,从意境到情致跟以往的自己都大不一样,是在新时代现实基础上的再出发。同曲异工的还有曹丹的凹版版画《阳光下的大桥浇筑工》 ,画中工人的形象朴实生动,凹版细腻的语言风格蕴含了时代的写意精神。

然而,还有相当多的版画作品还停留在“听妈妈讲那过去的故事”的阶段。历史观的局限导致认识论的滞后,认识论的不足又影响到语言的进步,共性化的语言占比很高,而个性化的语言很少。很多作品就故事讲故事,无法从故事的情节性、再现性上浮到意义层面,更谈不上从人的行为方式中精粹出时代的人性精神。要知道,故事就像螃蟹,形状描述和味道品鉴务必要形成从视觉到味觉联动,才能完成审美的驱动。形态描述得再具体、再细微,最终都要“入嘴为安” 。艺术以审美的名义展示人性的永恒,化解人类行为的迷茫。版画创作不能总云山雾罩地讲故事,要从故事中提炼出人性的品质和操守。

再进一步谈谈形象的概念化,因为这影响着许多观者对作品更深入阅读的审美快感。概念化的物象与人形,注定只是表面化的肤浅表现。共性可以讲述故事的一般框架和概念,个性才能体现故事的独到之处和真实目的。生活给予画家的启迪因人而异,一般人很难从丰富的生活中提炼出不一般的所在,这也是艺术的作用和意义。

有一个不好的现象是画家把自己当成劳动模范,以密集铺陈替代聚精凝神。画面的丰富性不能以堆砌为能事,还应该去引申和塑造理念,引导观者从表象走近实质,否则视觉的丰富就无法构成想象的空间,无法达到意境的诣趣。这几年,用体力而不用脑力画画的人越来越多。以版画为例,现代科技工艺的进步,使得相机取景、电脑成幅、数码打印更便捷。相机取景框定了观察,电脑成幅决定了视像,数码打印疏离了行为——这是用逻辑程序取代人的思维。逻辑程序不允许意外和偶然,不存在试错空间,所有意外都在软件编程过程中被严格计算掉了。

中国古人对艺术的最高评价是奇思妙想。眼前的人形物象不过是想象的起点而非终点,莫名其妙和匪夷所思的“妙”和“思”在艺术创作中是最难的。而今,创作中呈现的变化是程序软件所设计的,实际上是用更丰富的共性再现替代了更独特的个性表现。版画是绘画品类中最早“中毒”的,甚至发展到用数码打印和激光电刻完成作品。如此看来,用“相机取景+电脑编程+激光合成”这种最现代的技术、最现代的版画实际三五天便可焕然问世,这是目前存在的问题。

最后讲讲版画的边界。艺术表现本身是不应该人为地设定边界的,但艺术语言的个性特征又决定着它的审美趋向。个性越多元,共性越丰富;语言越有特点,表述才越生动。创作可以有不着边际的探索,也应当允许一定之规的执着。历史与现实要有机融合,创作者应“张弩向的者,用思专时也” 。
