  于非闇 (1889-1959)

  1938年冬至月(冬至月为中国传统农历为每年11月),于非闇绘制了本幅《玉堂富贵春喜》。当年的于非闇,正处于追求工笔花鸟画的探索期,一方面是深度沉浸于古代绘画传统,临摹研习古人技法与经典图式,与此同时,他也开始自觉面对自然万物进行写生积累。

  本幅画面上于非闇自言“拟赵昌笔”,实为来自于北宋著名花鸟画家赵昌笔意,据画家晚年自述学画经历,曾经潜心研究过五幅传世的重要古典工笔花鸟画,其中一件便是赵昌《四喜图》,此画现收藏保存于台湾。于氏对此画记忆尤新:

  绢本着色大立轴。原画绢已受潮霉,但是神采奕奕,色墨如新。它是否赵昌,董其昌的鉴定不能即作为定评。但是作为北宋中期的花鸟画来看,可疑之点却很少。它描写雪后的白梅、翠竹和山茶花,与那些噪晴、啄雪、闹枝、呼呲的禽鸟。突出的塑造了黑间白各具情态的四只喜鹊,这喜鹊比原物只有大一些而不缩小。他对喜鹊用大笔焦墨去点去捺,用破笔去丝去刷,特别是黑羽白羽相交接的地方,他是用黑墨破笔丝刷而空出白色的羽毛,并不是画了黑色之后,再用白粉去丝或刷出来的白色羽毛。这一画羽毛的特点,自五代黄筌到北宋赵佶,可以看出是一个传统。这一特点在南宋以后就很少见了。他另外还画了两只相思鸟、两只蜡嘴鸟(都是一雌一雄)和一只画眉鸟。翎与毛的画法,也和“山鹧棘雀图”一样,有显著的区别。此外,如梅花的枝干,石头的锋棱,竹子枝叶等等,既不同于黄居寀,也不同于崔白,他把春天已经到来的景色,完全活生生的刻划出来。

  北宋赵昌《四喜图》

  《玉堂富贵春喜》与赵昌《四喜图》有很多相似之处,画面构图安排物象上是整体反向对应,前者画面右部满密,左边空透,题款也位于左侧;后者左部丰富,右部疏朗。玉堂富贵画面上,玉兰树干从右侧一直伸向上部,海棠花枝交缠错落,摇曳生姿,玉兰花、海棠花正竞相绽放,两只喜鹊在站立于繁花丛中,玉兰树下,一块瘦劲嶙峋碧绿太湖石岩置于自画面下角斜矗挺立,石上站立两只喜鹊,其中一只正抬首与枝头另一只对视,太湖石背后的牡丹花已然盛开,其中红色、黄色两朵探出太湖石前,另外两朵则躲在太湖石后悄然花开,一朵则含苞待放。太湖石下的坡地上,一只七彩锦鸡昂首翘尾,填补了因太湖石斜立而余留的空白,其前钴蓝色的太湖石微露出一角,雏菊、蕨草杂生。

  《玉堂富贵春喜》描绘的玉兰、海棠、牡丹、太湖石,喜鹊、锦鸡这些自然事物,有着非常深刻的中国传统文化内涵寓意,被视为祥瑞吉兆,赋予着美好期许的寓意。它们也注入到于非闇的个人生活经验认识中,用笔画出来就更加讲究注意。

  于氏工笔花鸟画最初是从民间画师王润暄学习,养花养虫鸟、制作绘画颜料,接触到平民百姓日常生活中的文化习俗,“由于我在未学画以前,就和民间的画家、民间的刺绣家们讨论,我也给他们画过‘兜肚’、‘鞋面’、‘挽袖’、‘床沿’和帐子‘走水’,这和我与养花养鸟养虫的老师傅们在一起,得到了相当大的启发与教益,同样帮助了我学画。”他还曾是民国二十年代北平报刊有名记者,以笔名撰写发表一系列旧都市井风俗生活的文字。

  此外,于非闇学习取法的宋代花鸟画中,也是寓意吉祥,他认识到“两宋花鸟画喜作吉语,不仅应制之作为然,治乱不常亦先民祈祷福祥之意也”。于非闇在《玉堂富贵春喜》绘制中,或许正如他曾经说过的那样,“牡丹与玉兰、海棠相配的叫‘玉堂富贵’。这是春景。”借助时节性事物组合精心描绘,传递出深刻的美好寓意,花鸟画的“意境”真谛正在于此。

  盛开的牡丹花叶,七彩锦鸡,喜鹊,一大一小两块太湖石,大块敷石绿,小块敷石青,用色鲜艳单纯,沉着厚重。这得益于画家对于宋代缂丝技艺风格的借鉴、研究与学习,无论是沈子蕃、朱克柔这些名家,还是一块裙角、一块袍服,他都能从中获得启发。于非闇曾言“予最喜宋刻丝,其精者犹存唐人浑厚之趣”。

  《玉堂富贵春喜》,整幅画面繁富热闹,一派春天气息跃然纸上。细谨的用笔,一丝不苟,诸类物象姿态生动,赋色妍丽典雅,实为于非闇工笔花鸟画中最具代表性的作品。
