宋代画家马远《山径春行图》，是一幅春意盎然的山水图，春天的江南，云淡风轻，一名儒雅的文士，带着携琴的小童，漫步于山径间。溪旁的柳树，抽出了细柔的新芽，引来了一对黄莺，在枝梢上鸣唱。文士站在溪旁望着它们，捻须微笑，陶然地沉浸在初春里。宋代理学家程颐笔“云淡风轻近午天，傍花随柳过前川”的春景，跃然纸上。马远的山水画多简括而清润，这幅画巧心的布局、丰富的线条，以及如轻烟熏染般的淡墨，却将春山的润泽，与浸淫于春光中文士陶然的情态表露无遗。画家用了很多笔墨去描绘左侧的柳树，并在画面右侧留下大片空白，加之此图尺幅较小，如果处理不好，极易空洞无物。由于画家水准极高，所以在巧妙经营、以虚写实之后，又使得画面充盈丰满。
