 今天是世界读书日,世界读书日的全称为“世界图书与版权日”,最初的创意来自国际出版商协会。联合国教科文组织将每年的4月23日被定为“世界读书日”,以此鼓励世界人民多阅读并分享阅读带来的幸福与快乐。China Calligraphy and Painting Network特遴选一张与读书相关的画作与读者分享。

  吴昌硕此画取自元代画家倪瓒“一水两岸”式构图,然与倪氏清逸疏淡之画风迥异,此画呈现出强烈之不稳定感与震人心魄之磅礡气象。倪氏喜侧锋,善枯笔淡墨,吴昌硕则代之以大胆的湿笔重墨,中锋行笔。恣纵奔放之水平长线写出水纹,亦传达出水面空气运走之动感。同样地,远景方折奇肆之线条则不仅表现出山形轮廓,亦营造出山峦周遭躁动不安之氛围。前景巨石、大树垂直耸立,与横向取势之水面构成强烈冲突。横向短线扫出之芦苇叶与倾斜的苇杆则暗示出河风之肆虐。

 
  然而,此矛盾不安的中心却是一片宁静。大树下,茅屋内,一文士正潜心研读。从画幅左上之题诗推测,该文士或即爲吴昌硕本人。在树下读书,是从古至今许多读书人的共同爱好。然相较于“松下轩窗坐,岩间卷帙开”的惬意,吴昌硕“秋之爲气辟鸿蒙,珍重欧阳赋此风。我寿蹉跎仍未补,树根补读画徒工。”一诗似乎别有一番意味。

  中国山水发展至正统派末流由于陈陈相因,导致僵化定型,杳无生气。恰逢清末民初,政治动荡,东西方文化冲突尖锐,价值判断混乱。这时的中国学术界及中国画坛上出现了全盘否定中国绘画艺术的倾向。康有为认为西洋画远胜过中国画,并首先发难:“中国画应遂灭绝”。陈独秀也提出了“美术革命”论。一时间,所有舆论均指向中国画学衰弊至极,中国文人画恶劣至极,只有学习西方写实主义方有出路。

  西方文化有其自身之特色,但并不适合东方。中华传统文化博大精深,源远流长。中华文化中自古包含着求新求变之理。《易经》即是阐述天地世间万象变化的古老经典。只要深入地体察、思考,也能不断创新。己未年(1919),吴昌硕已七十六岁高龄。其虽以传统卫道士自居,所绘亦是中国文人画的经典题材——山水画。然而“与古为徒”亦是“与古为新”。其笔下的山水画与传统画风迥异,这表明保护传统并不意味着就得做一个保守的人。

  清代中后期碑派书法兴起以来,金石用笔入画在花鸟画中表现得尤为突出,相得益彰,大放异彩。然而,山水画领域却并未有太大突破。山水画在传统中国画坛是专业含量最高之画科,用笔复杂,大都经过层层微妙的皴擦点染叠加而成的。金石用笔能够充分应用于造型、用笔、结构相对简单的结构的折枝花卉。在山水画中却难以得到最大限度的发挥。吴昌硕的革新在于其简化了传统山水画的图式,弱化了传统山水画复杂的笔致来突出用笔的趣味。

  此画物象简洁,不描绘细节,山石皴法亦减至最略,从根本上简化山水画,故金石用笔浑厚粗犷之特点完全彰显出来。恣肆之用笔与不稳定之结构表明吴昌硕之追求既非自然写真也非因袭传统,而在于反映时代精神内涵。吴昌硕以其浑厚苍茫的金石用笔极大地改变了传统山水画的面貌和审美趣味。在当时的历史背景下,不失为一次“以古为新”保护中国民族文化的有益尝试。

  尽管窗外的世界一片混乱,吴昌硕心中却一片澄明。

 

  随着新冠病毒肆虐全球,种种阴谋论、末世论甚嚣尘上,不少地区的人民陷入恐慌、焦虑,甚至抑郁之中。相较于全球的近况,进入四月份以来,中国的疫情形势已大有好转。然境外输入、无症状感染等仍不容忽视。让我们再忍一忍,再等一等,别因按捺不住逞一时之快。让我们从书海中畅游,端详那些让我们欢喜的文字,让其净化我们的心灵,使浮躁的内心获得宁静。“闭门即是深山,读书随处净土。”面对疫情,消除恐惧心理、保持平和心态、坚持理性思维是首要的。积极响应国家的号召,继续根据医生的建议,做好自身的防疫,并尽可能地帮助他人。只要我们齐心协力,相信,胜利的一天终会到来。
